Matthew Effemey, Operations Manager at The Capitol announced last Friday “We are delighted to  be offering a selection of fine films on our three screens, many of which the film distributors have allowed us to screen at a discounted rate.  In turn, we are pleased to be able to pass on this saving to our customers which means all tickets from Friday 24 July will be £6 and Family Tickets £20.   Tickets for National Theatre Encores will also be discounted to £10 and this offer will run until further notice.  We look forward to welcoming back more of our valued customers” 

This announcement comes as more people returning to The Capitol are continuing to give good feedback on the fresh look of the venue.  One local lady commented on Twitter “Looks lovely! Just been to see Love Sarah and the place was gleaming. Loving the Art Deco decs and full marks to the staff for a great welcome”.

Customers who haven’t been in yet can expect to find lots of new safety measures in place  including a one-way system, socially distanced seating, protective screens and plenty of sanitizing stations as well as an electronic ticketing system.

Their programme from Friday 31 July will include:  Summerland (12A) is a nostalgic wartime drama starring Gemma Arterton, Penelope Wilton and Tom Courtenay;  a black and white version of this year’s most critically lauded films Parasite (15) which Director Bong Joon Ho said “was his desire to create a work of art which drove him to cut a black and white version”  Legends of French cinema Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche join masterful filmmaker Hirokazu Koreeda (Shoplifters, Still Walking) to paint a moving portrait of family dynamics in The Truth (PG) and there’s another chance to see the Oscar winning Spotlight (15), the extraordinary true story of how investigative journalists uncovered an abuse scandal and cover-up.  For musical theatre fans, Kinky Boots – The Musical (12A) is a screening of the fabulous musical filmed at The Adelphi Theatre.

On the 12m theatre screen will be a new 40th Anniversary 4K restoration of the 1980’s cult favourite Flash Gordon (12A), the Oscar and BAFTA award winning Green Book (12A) telling the story of Dr Don Shirley, a world-class African-American pianist, who embarked on a concert tour in the Deep South in 1962 with his chauffeur. Frozen II (U) the charming musical is sure to please their younger audience and Captain Marvel (12A) starts the run of a new film attraction at The Capitol, MARVEL MONDAYS which will feature a selection of the best Marvel superhero adventures each Monday evening.
