We recently made a Facebook post remembering 'Light Up Horsham', an exciting project funded by Horsham District Council that was the finale of the 2019 Horsham District Year of Culture. That post received a massive response, with the participants expressing an overwhelming desire for it to return.
We have subsequently been speaking to the creator of Light Up Horsham, who has provided us with the following statement.
Statement from the creator of light up Horsham:
"It was so nice to read all the lovely comments and fond memories of Light Up Horsham. I’m so pleased that 4 years on it still holds such a place in people's hearts and minds.
When I created Light Up Horsham I didn’t want it to be just a Christmas light and sound show. I wanted it to be an immersive experience that evoked the magic and wonder of Christmas in people of all ages. I think we achieved this. The month-long projection mapping show was the culmination of many months hard work by dozens and dozens of people. From animators and 3D designers, to audio and tech crew. Rigging and electricians, health and safety and dedicated staff at Horsham District Council. It also wouldn’t have happened without the support of the many local business sponsors. For various reasons it did end up being a one-off, but perhaps this is what makes it so special.
Instead of this show I’d like to encourage us all to Light Up Horsham in own way this Christmas. For me Christmas is about hope and love and joy and peace… all things we need a lot more of in the world right now! So this Christmas let’s find our own ways to bring light and joy to the world. This could be literally with lights and projection on our homes, workplaces, schools and shops. Or it could be metaphorical… How can you bring Christmas joy and light to your neighbourhood? Who can you bless this Christmas? What areas of our lives or communities need peace and love? Wouldn’t it be great if the legacy of Light Up Horsham was that each year we change this town with Christmas magic, not just by lights and decorations, but by how we are and what we do.
Please share your ideas, photos, and videos with the hashtag #LightUpHorsham I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! Have a very happy Christmas".
